Condolences pour in after Kambuzia Partovi’s death

Tributes pour in after the death of Iranian writer and filmmaker Kambuzia Partovi.

Tributes have poured in from Iranian cineastes and institutions after the death of Iranian writer and filmmaker Kambuzia Partovi.

Partovi died at the age of 65 in Dey hospital in the capital, Tehran, on Tuesday of the novel coronavirus.

In a message of condolence published on its website, Iran's Farabi Cinema Foundation described Partovi as one of the most influential filmmakers of Iranian children's cinema.

The Iranian Actors Association also offered condolences on the passing of the “clever and noble writer and director”, saying he left valuable works that would immortalize his name.

The Iranian Directors Association and Iranian Screenwriters Association were also among the institutions that expressed condolences on Partovi’s death.

Hossein Entezami, the head of the Iranian Organization of Cinema and Audiovisual Affairs, also expressed his condolences and sympathy to Partovi’s family for their loss.

Partovi was born in the northern city of Rasht. He began his career as a short filmmaker.

In 1987, he made his feature film directorial debut with ‘The Fish’.

Partovi also wrote the scripts of films directed by prominent Iranian directors such as Abbas Kiarostami and Majid Majidi.

He received four scriptwriting awards from Tehran's Fajr Film Festival.

Partovi also co-wrote the script for Majidi’s 2015 flick ‘Muhammad: The Messenger of God’.

Reacting to the news, director Majid said he was sorry for the loss of Partovi, saying “he left us very soon”, but he stressed that the writer’s valuable works will remain in the memory of the Iranian cinema.

Iranian female director Pouran Derakhshandeh was also shocked by the passing of Partovi, saying his death is “a very bitter and sad event”.
